June 2022 Friends of Unity Blog Hop!

Happy June, I hope your finally seeing sunny warmer days.   This month we are hopping with a .  Masculine theme.   A lot of us are challenged by masculine cards.  I hope this hop  brings you lots of inspiration

When making masculine cards, think simple.   Most men (I am a mom of three grown boys) that I know that I have sent cards to, don't really care about all the fluff, so really keep it simple.  I tend to do more vintage looking stuff for masculine cards, like cars etc.  But, using a silly image like this dad looking bear is perfect way to keep things simple.   I paired it with darker colors and used a silly little hello sentiments.  Pretty easy if you ask me!  The image is a bit older but this bear has been a fav of mine, and I think he's perfect for guy/dad cards.  It's called Patience & Hugs.  It's a great little set to have.

I left a lot of space to the left of the image, I really wanted some of the paper to be seen here, Using this type of paper with rulers, maps etc...can be a great way to add color but keep the image "masculine"  Keeping the sentiment and everything together pulls your eye over to the image.

I hope you all enjoy the hop, and I also hope that it gets your mojo flowing so that your all set to make those cards for dads day!

If you would like to start at the beginning of the hop Please visit my friend, Crystal!

May Friends of Unity blog hop!

This month we have an Angie girl, Challenge.  I absolutely love the Angie girl line.  I feel like the represent so many of us and are perfect for sending cards to our girlfriends.

This first card, has such a great Spring feel to it. Her name is Poppy Girl, I have used her cutting off the flowers too.  For this card I used a nice brick pattern paper that was in my stash. I did simple water color with Zig markers.   I cut her with a Pretty Pink Posh die. I cut that twice to add the blue edge to bring the color of her shirt into the card. Added a few Sequins and done. So, simple and easy. Add a sentiment or leave it blank.

As graduation season is right around the corner.   (My heart goes out to those Seniors effected by Covid-19)  I don't buy a lot of graduation stamps, as I don't have really anyone graduating any more, so I bought this set called SENTIMENTS FOR GRADUATES.   This way you have appropriate sentiments and can use whatever stamp goes with the grad.   One of my favorite girls graduates this year, So I wanted something that would reflect her.  I think I nailed it.  I absolutely love how this card turned out.

What I did to add texture to the background paper, was Added some distress ink in grey around the edge.  I then took a stencil and added a design.   After that I went ahead and added some stars with Nuvo glacier paste in quick silver.  To finish off the card, I went ahead and added a film ribbon from Tim Holtz, and the 2020 from my stash. (sorry It's older I don't have a source)  I colored the image with copics.   For her shirt I flick the ink up leaving that sharp edge for a tie dyed look.  yes her hair is Blue, as the recipients hair is blue.  At least this week.  haha  This Angie girl is called Cierra girl

To see the whole line of Angie girls go HERE!

IF you happened  here on chance and would like to start at the beginning of the hop Go visit CRYSTAL

Next on the hop is Robyn

Spring in February!

I don't know what is happening in your part of the world, but here in southern NJ, it's unseasonable warm.   Today was in the 50's.  This time of year is usually our coldest.   This is when we get a tiny bit of snow (that I love) but, as of now we have seen no snow, and not to many days that it's been freezing.   I bought tons of stuff to make winter cards, but without the cold winter weather I've not been in the mood to use it.   Today was so sunny and nice that I thought I'd do a spring card, with the new stamp set from unity Fresh Start.  I love graciellie design stamps (found at unity) It's on sale now and you can find it HERE!  I am not the best at coloring but I have fun and that is all that matters.   I used an old paper pack and some enamal dots on this quick and easy card.   Hope you get some time to craft this weekend.

Happy Creating,

Dawn

February, friends of Unity blog hop!

Good Morning Crafty friends, Thank you for joining us for another month of the Friends of Unity blog hop.

Since, it's February I had Pinks on the brain.  For this card I used distress oxide in  Festive berries, worn lipstick and Festive Berries. for the background.   I used a Tim Holtz stencil to give the cross hatch that looks like the kisses.xxx !  The stencil number is THS099   I put down the spun sugar first then went over that with the distress microglaze, I just use my finger.  Then I added the other colors going in that triangle shape adding where I thought it was needed.   I than colored the image with the same colors but used regular distress instead of the oxide.  I added washi and the little sticker for a touch of black.  black is probably not allowed buy I like to rebel so there.  haha  The tiny hearts that are in white are a die called mini hearts set from simon says stamp.   The cute little Cuddlebug is found HERE

I'll be posting a video onto the Unity show and tell page on how I did the background.    I am not 100% sure how to do all this yet but will give it a try.  I was unable to upload it here.  Still trying to figure this all out. Here is the link to the video on how I did this background https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iO-kVXztIgI

If you would like to start at the beginning of the hop please visit CRYSTAL!

Dream

I love mixed media, I like ink I like stencils, I don't get to play with that stuff as often as I should.   I need a bigger craft room.   haha (don't we all)

I had some distress oxide sprays on my desk just sprayed some random color on, then went to regular distress ink and added the blue with  Tim stencil.  (all we have to do is say Tim, and we all know who that it is)  Added the wood embellishments and done easy peasy

The image is Unity, and is from a kit of the month.

Enjoy your day,

Dawn

January 2020 friends of Unity, blog hop.

Happy New Year!  I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas, and a great New Years!  I can not believe it's 2020, I hope you all have a creative and productive year.

For our first hop of 2020, We choose to look back at our favorite stamp of 2019.  Uh, how do you choose your favorite stamp, That is like choosing your favorite child.  HAHA

I really enjoy making winter themed cards, Lately I've been buying lots of things to embellish winter cards so I choose this newer stamp pure and simple, you can purchase her HERE!    Hope you enjoy.

For this background I'm gonna break down how to do it.    When adding the layers of color, leave some white space, for depth.   It gives that cloudy snowy effect.

You do not need to be perfect here, this is canson water color paper, it's not gonna be smooth, don't worry about that.   Also, these layers are going on dry you will be adding water at the end.

When adding your hickory smoke go in a triangle adding top side and bottom, you don't need much just a touch for that winter look.  If you don't like the added grey don't add it.  It's totally up to you.

Now, add your broken china to the edge you can be heavy handed with this step, depending on the look you want.  In my final card I went a little heavier.   Just fyi, if you don't have a media Matt I suggest you get one they are fantastic.

Now, don't freak out, just go for it.   You can go more water or less, if it's too soupy just dab off with a paper towel ( I use a cloth that I got at walmart for 98 cents, it's washable and better for the environment it's called a flour sack and is in the area with dish towels)

Okay, so this is a 3d embossing folder by Tim Holtz, run it while still wet, run back and forth about 5 times for better impression.   As per Tim, himself.

Now, dry with Tim Holtz dryer, or set aside while you color your image.  For my image I used the Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolor.   They are very pigmented so I dab some onto my matt and add a little water.  I have A LOT to learn when it comes to these.

Added a sentiment from Elsa girl, she can be found HERE!  A few sequins, and splattered with Pixie dust from ink on 3, Unity does carry it. (it may be sold out so check often)

Here is the final card, it's a fun one.

So, Next on the Hop is Amber, you can find her HERE!  If you would like to start at the beginning go check out  Crystal HERE!

Thanks for Visiting, Winners from last month have been contacted and claimed.

Have an Amazing day,

Friends of Unity, November blog hop. Give Thanks

Welcome to the Friends of Unity blog hop, If your new here welcome I hope you enjoy.  If you've been here before thank you for coming back to visit.

This month our theme is Giving Thanks.   Fitting for this month when we reflect on what we are Thankful for.

I have a few projects to share.  So, lets get to it.

The first two cards are very simple,  I cased this layout from my fellow hopper Alaine.   I am thankful for her and her cards.   I love Angie girls, I like to try to keep them whole because  they have lots of itty bitty bits around them.  This layout works well keeping the image full  and also allows you to use pattern paper.  I use this layout all the time.   It makes it really easy.  For the second card  I used November girl,  you can find her HERE! be sure to look at the line of Angie girls, and add to your wish list.  Unitys brown Thursday sale will be here very soon.   The word Gratitude is from the set Frondescence and the link for that is below.   For this first card I used Emerson girl, shes great for fall and winter cards.  You can find her HERE!

This next card is also very simple.   I wanted to show how you can make the sentiment shine.   For this one I used Frondescence you can find it HERE!  I colored the bottom half with copics then added a gina marie design die, to kinda frame the whole image.  I used the sentiment from Array of fall.   and you can find that one HERE!  I sprayed the whole thing with distress mica spray at the end.   added a few sequins.  I also distressed the edges of the frame and sentiment.    It's an easy way to add texture.

I hate long blog posts, so I am not gonna bore you to much longer, bare with me here.   I just want to say if your here and have not yet checked out the Unity facebook group called Unity show n tell, I suggest you do.   I have not been that connected to a group since the old two peas in a bucket.  The group is kind and friendly and there are many levels of talent there. So, go take a peek around share and enjoy,

I want to thank you for stopping by I am glad your here.  Don't forget to leave a comment as some girls do giveaways.  This month I am giving away one ITTY  BITTY.  Just a tiny gesture of thanks to you my readers.   I will announce my winner at next months hop.

Fall Prayer card!

This stamp set was calling my name for a while. It's of course from Unity and you can get it here.   It comes with two flowers and five bible Vs.  it's a great set to have, I was not sure I can handle the coloring of it until I really started to use water color.  I really like water color on flowers.

For this card I used Kuretake Gansai Tambi water colors.  Amazon has them for a good price.  I got the set of 40 and they are very very pigmented.   I added sparkle and sequins to give some shimmer.  I am one of those girls who loves shimmer on a card.

I used  Cadmium orange NO.33 and Cadmium Red No. #30 and for the splash of teal I used Malachite NO.#50

Here is a closer view to show you the sparkle.

Does not really do it justice.

Hope you have been enjoying the blog lately, I've been trying to be more active.  If you here again, thanks for the support and stopping by.

Have a blessed day!

Friends of Unity, September blog hop!

Oh, how I love some fall cards, I just love the fun fall colors.   I'm about ready to say goodbye to summer.  Although I enjoy being warm and not cold.   I'll miss you shorts and t shirts.  Waving bye sadly!

So, if your new  here WELCOME, My name is Dawn,  and I love to make cards.  I hope you stop back or give me follow.  I don't post much so I won't bug you to much!

Today I have two cards for you.   One with a bit of a mixed media touch and one that IMHO, is just adorable.  .  We are not sponsored!  Just a group of women who happen to love UNITY!

This first card was with the new cuddlebug Racoon.  You can purchase it here!  Don't forget to watch for sales.  Unity has sales most every weekend.   I colored him with distress ink Added him to a piece of pattern paper!  Simple card.  Can easily be recreated.   Use up some of that stash of paper you have.  God, knows we all have a ton of it!

My second card is using the sentiment kit There is no reason.  You can purchase it here!    What I did for this card was stamp the image onto water color cardstock.   I used again distress inks to color to get the center darker I just rubbed the ink pad onto the image.  It gave that cool darker center that i wanted.   I added a pop of orange and some teal for a fun fall look.   For the back ground I sprayed some distress oxide spray onto a kraft panel.   I spritz with water to wake it up.  And then spritz with bronze distress spray.  You cant really see that in the picture but it's' there.   I popped up the flowers (i think they look like big mums)   added a sentiment which I distressed with distress ink so it wasn't so stark white.   Easy elements easy card.  Don't forget to play with what you have.  Get out some of those sprays and make a simple background.  Have fun!

Thank you for visiting me today!   Hop along and comment for a chance to win a prize.  I'll be giving away one  Itty bitty!  For your chance to win please leave a comment.  I'll announce the winner here at next months hop!

Little Turtle!

This card was inspired by one of the Unity design team members.  (Bobbi Sue McConathy from two38creations)When I saw her card I knew I needed to do one like it so I ran an ordered this die from Simon  says stamp, it's' not expensive.    The stamp was a FREE stamp from Unity.  You can buy it here.   It is on sale from 5.99  you can't beat that 6 bucks... you need this little bugger!  So for the card I used distress oxide for the back ground.  added the cute little die cut. and done.  super fast super simple super fun!  The sentiment on the front is from Taylored Expression.   It's a really cool concept.  It's one large stamp with a die that cuts multiple sentiments at once.  You can find it here!

Summer time!

I live at the Jersey shore, some people think that sounds amazing and that we all go to the beach every day.   I've not been in about four years, and it's two min from my house.    Some locals go a lot, but most of us work second jobs etc.  My kids get to only work in summer because everything closes in winter so I become a taxi in the summer and I also work a second job.   I plan to get there one of these days.  Maybe next weekend.   ( I say that every week).

I made a few of this style of card, it's an image I requested from Unity.   I think shes perfect and kinda looks like me. (if only my thighs didnt touch. haha)

Hope your taking some time to enjoy summer, it's only here for a short time.  We will all be freezing soon enough.

Focus

Using This  new stamp again from Unity, by Angie Blom.   I love the lines of this like a sketch.   It's really funny to color and does not need much to have a big impact.  I used chit chat sentiment from Tim Holtz..  It's really great, it has tons of phrases.

Enjoy your day!

Focus on things

I knew when this stamp was release over at UNITYSTAMPCO.   I had to have it.   I don't buy often, and it has to be something that speaks to me.  This was one of those omg I have to have it stamps.   Unfortunately most of unity does that to me.   They are deeply etched red rubber stamps on cling foam.   This set is called focus on the things.   The washi tape is from hobby lobby   I colored with copics.     I hope today you find something that makes you happy.   Take a second and speak to God, or just breath in the scent of spring...what ever floats your boat, just take a second to focus on something good.   Right now we all need a little of that!

sunday funday!

We had two gorgeous days here is southern New Jersey.  Then today BAM cold and rainy.  I'm ready for warmer days and not wearing coats and ugg boots.  I'm so over being cold.

For todays card I used a stamp from UNITY stamp co.  If you go over to the site everything is over 50% off for their birthday celebration.   Take a look their is really something for everyone.  They have over 60,000 images.  They are cook to order so the make the stamps when you place and order.   I usually get them in about a week.  Shipping is also four dollars so they are very reasonable.

This card is simple, can be recreated easily.   I colored the flower with zig real brush markers. pattern paper and that is about it.  easy but pretty.
